What happens when you go to a foreign country to get away from the stresses of life? Enter into the world of Hoodfellas II, where you will be taken on a journey of kidnapping, murder, corruption, and sex.

Deon had landed on foreign soil, unfamiliar to the traditions of Haiti but filled with high expectations. Deon came to Haiti to leave his troubled life behind him, but things take a turn for the worse. Deon and some of his closes friends are not used to the Haitian way of life. Looking into the faces of poverty is surreal to them. Always having to stay on guard, it's hard to just relax and let down his guard. But when Deon gets kidnapped, it becomes survival of the fittest mode. Will Deon make it out alive, or will he see his last days in Haiti?

Hoodfellas II definitely takes you into the grim and grit of Haiti. During his encounter, Deon comes across many characters that emerge and show their true colors. One in particular is Jean Paul, who opens his home to Deon. Jean Paul is back to his homeland after catching a case in the States. Jean Paul wants to take care of his friend while they are visiting and possibly invest in businesses together. But when Deon is kidnap, and after doing some research and realizing he was the intended target. Jean Paul goes into beast mode to save his friend as well as revealing some secrets that he thought were airtight close.

Hoodfellas II by Richard Jeanty is a truly different kind of street tale. Being that the story takes place in a foreign country; the author paints a good picture the poverty and improvishment up close. It shows the extreme things that can cause an individual to do whatever they have to do to survive. I have read several books by Richard Jeanty and this book shows his ability to continue to create strong novels with a purpose.

NEW REVIEW: Richard Jeanty - Ignorant Souls

Ignorant Souls(the prequel to Neglected Souls)Richard Jeanty -
Ignorant Souls -
Available Now! -
3 out of 5 books -

Ignorant Souls by Richard Jeanty is the story of a dysfunctional family. Buck Johnson came from a huge family, a total of 15 brothers and sisters. His father worked in the fields trying to provide for his family the best way he knew how. Unfortunately due to his upbringing, he would take his frustrations out on his family by beating them. His frustrations came from lack of money, too many mouths to feed, etc.

Buck Johnson literally came from nothing and strives to make a better life for his family. Buck marries a girl that seemed to be raised in a good Christian household. Little does he know that his wife has been keeping a horrible secret, and little does either one of them know that her parents have been keeping a secret themselves. Love does not seem to live at the Johnson residence. Buck has a hard time expressing how he feels and gives little to no affection to his children or his wife. Although the Johnson family attends church often, they do not take the time to communicate with each other or their children. Buck and his wife tend to feel that ignorance is bliss.

Ignorant Souls by Richard Jeanty was a fast read. I was able to read this book within a few hours. The story holds your attention from the first page. Ignorant Souls is a story of mental and physical abuse and a family that tries to break the chains of the past. Unfortunately, I felt the story was a little too cut and dry. Mr. Jeanty made a point of mentioning a few of the other siblings and I would have really enjoyed reading more about them as well. Rest assured...if you have not read Neglected Souls or Neglected No More, Ignorant Souls is a story within itself. It is the prequel to Neglected Souls.

NEW REVIEW: Richard Jeanty - The Bedroom Bandit

The Bedroom Bandit

The Bedroom Bandit -

4 out of 5 books -

What do you do when you are sexually frustrated, neglected, lied and cheated on? This describes the ladies of Bingham Lane, deprived from attention they desire and need. These wealthy women derive a plan that is too hard to pass up for the "Bedroom Bandit."

David a.k.a. Junior knew early on that he was different from most young men his age. With grooming from his uncle, Junior learned the ins and outs of a woman. Junior excelled in academics and received a full academic scholarship to Brown University. But that's just one of the images that Junior's possesses. Junior’s sexual appetite is unique, and he learned from the best...an older woman...who's also his neighbor.
When a situation goes wrong, Junior has to leave school and must re-evaluate his life options. Will Junior succumb to his sexual desires and embark in a profession as "The Bedroom Bandit" that is both satisfying and well paying at the same time?

The Bedroom Bandit takes you to a place where you definitely want to go. Junior had the world in his hands, in every since of the word. Junior has a lot or pressure to be the best. But he eventually realizes that he has to live for himself and stop trying to make everyone happy.  I think Junior understood this, and realized that life is not promised to anyone. But just like the old saying goes, "everything that glitters isn’t gold." Junior soon learns that every choice has a consequence and repercussion. Will Junior be able to handle everything that comes his way?

The Bedroom Bandit by Richard Jeanty had me on the edge of my seat. The novel definitely proved the point that everything that is good to you isn’t necessarily good for you. Mr. Jeanty provides the reader a juicy storyline full of affairs, money, extravagant taste, and murder. I thoroughly enjoyed reading each and every page in The Bedroom Bandit from the beginning to end.
