When you see a handsome, successful Black man walking down the street with a blonde haired, blue-eyed white woman on his arm, some black women take offense and automatically look at that black man as a "sellout." Some people may feel as if that man is a "traitor" to his race. Dating interracially is more common in this day and age, but some folks still have strong views on this topic.

Tammy McDonald is a beautiful black woman who is a loan officer in a bank. After a failed relationship with yet another black man, who proved to be lazy, unambitious and thuggish in nature, she packs her bags and moves from Dallas to San Diego for a fresh start. Everywhere she turns, all she seems to see is interracial couples. Tammy never really considered dating outside her race until a co-worker lays on his charm.

Terrell Jackson is a handsome, successful, eligible bachlor. After a failed relationship to a black woman whom he was faithful to and treated with the utmost respect, Terrell begins to cross the color lines to see if there really is a difference between black women and white women.

Penelope Miller is the white woman that has always had a hidden desire for the black man. Growing up in the South with a racist father will do that to you though. So when she moves far away from home, never would she have ever imagined she would fall head over heels in love with a black man. The question is, how will her family react when they find out?

Sellout was an awesome debut novel by James W. Lewis. Mr. Lewis had me laughing out loud at some points and had me really thinking at others. Mr. Lewis does an excellent job in showing both sides of the color spectrum. If you are looking for an enjoyable read, this book is for you. Sellout would also make an excellent novel for a bookclub discussion. I am looking forward to future works by this author.
