NEW REVIEW: Secret Affair by Melissa Love

2 out of 5 books

Secret Affair by Melissa Love revolves around Carter Perry and his wife Keisha Perry. Carter and a group of guys from the office hang out weekly where the men discuss any and everything. Lately, the discussions have been about Carter and his philandering ways. Carter eventually feels like the tables have been turned and that Keisha may be cheating on him, but could it just be his conscious thinking that or is she really? If she is cheating the question is with whom? Will Carter find the answer to this looming question or is he just paranoid?

Secret Affair by Melissa Love had a good plot but I would have liked to have seen more character development. With a little more patience and development this could have easily been a book of 200 pages instead of the 75 pages it actually was. The story had numerous errors and typos ranging from punctuation to past and present tense. There is a twist in the end but the whole book is given to you in the synopsis which leaves nothing to the reader’s imagination.

Broke, alone and embarrassed Assariyah resorts to becoming an escort to maintain the lifestyle she has become accustomed to. Coming into contact with various men, Assariyah is involved in many dangerous circumstances especially with the promise of her biggest payout to date. Assariyah is on her last job when she realizes that her arch enemy’s husband is her last client. Things take a turn for the worst with an unexpected pregnancy, murder, and extortions. Will Assariyah get the ultimate payback that she is looking for or will her plan go up in smoke?

Assariyah-Money Over Everything by La'Toya Makanjuola was a good book. The story flowed nicely and was a different kind of read because it took place in London.

NEW REVIEW: Sex, Lies, and Child Support: The Unholy Trinity by E. Lemont Goode, Jr.

5 out of 5 books

Mikaela Carter is one of Atlanta’s most sought after attorneys and yet feared by her opponents in the courtroom. Mikaela is the attorney that women get who have a child or children by wealthy men that refuse to take care of their child/children to get what is rightly deserved to take care of a child. Trust and believe Mikaela will seek out more than enough in child care expenses to be awarded to her clients. Along with the money and prestige of being a hotshot attorney, Mikaela is also a very beautiful woman yet the one thing she is missing is a love of her own.
From the outside looking in Leah Sanchez’s life seems good. But as we all know things are not always what they appear. Leah is fed up with her husband and his philandering ways so she kicks him out. The daughter they have is the one thing that they both love more than anything. A nasty divorce is on the horizon but where will it leave their daughter? Not only that, but secrets that were long buried are about to be unearthed and if her secret is exposed it could potentially cause both of them a world of hurt. Leah will eventually have to face the source of her deepest secret and when she does life as she knows it soon turns to a living hell.
Jordan Michaels is a professional basketball player who is one of good ones. He has a wife that is very supportive and loving to not only him but to his son that he has by his baby mama.  It is starting to become a problem though when Jordan and his wife has his son more than the mother. With Jordan paying so much in child support it only makes sense that they get full custody. When they proceed with trying to get full custody, it causes more drama than they could have ever suspected. When these three lives intersect, each of these individual’s lives will be turned upside down and the consequences of their actions will result in an explosive turn of events.
Sex, Lies, and Child Support: The Unholy Trinity by E. Lemont Goode Jr. was an excellent read! Every turn of the page the reader is sucked into these characters lives and like a fly on a wall sees the drama unfold. Mr. Goode weaved together a novel that has many twists the reader will not see coming.  I really enjoyed this novel and I definitely plan to read his first novel GAME and any future works from him.

This was an awesome read, edge of your seat excitement, and a storyline that keeps you and wouldn't let you go until the end. The love and loyalty between Alexa and Dro is something we all wish for. But is it enough? Basement Level 5: Never Scared, is a must read if you're looking for action, unexpected twists and turns with a bit of romance and mystery.

NEW REVIEW : A Generation of Curses by Patricia Bridewell and Faatima Albasair-Johnson

4 out of 5 books

Khadesia and Malcolm have had a comfortable and happy marriage for the past 8 years but then a knock on the door changes everything in A Generation of Curses. Khadesia has worked very hard to keep her past in the past and her husband in the dark. The timing of the knock on the door could not be any worse as Malcolm is preparing to become the head pastor at Solid Rock Christian Ministries.Khadesia must make some major life-changing decisions that will depend on if she decides to keep the faith or not.

A Generation of Curses is one of the most realistic books I have read in the Christian fiction genre because it is realistic as to how ‘church folks’ behave and hypocritical they are towards other church members. I recommend this book to others and look forward to more work by these two authors.

NEW REVIEW : Cheap Red Wine by Sandra Hall

5 out of 5 books

From its beautiful cover with those toned legs and red boots, I had a feeling that Cheap Red Wine by Sandra Hall was going to be one interesting read. I am happy to say I was correct! The foundation of the story is one that we are all quite familiar with, two best friends vying for the same man’s attention. But Hall’s delivery makes this book unique and different.

Cheap Red Wine has a mixture of everything to engage readers. It has humor, friendship & familial issues, respectable intimate scenes, love, and plenty of drama. Sandra Hall has a refreshing writing style and I look forward to reading more of her work in the future!

NEW REVIEW : Darker Than Night by Erick Burgess

4 out of 5 books

There is a serial killer in town and it appears that no one in town is safe. Detective Carter Williams is on the scene after returning from a suspension.  He is one of the best detectives and they know that if the murders can be solved, he is definitely the one to do it. The killer is leaving a very distinct message at the scene of each crime. It appears after each murder the killer has the approval of the public. They are on his side! They believe he is a modern day vigilante. Detective Williams goes above and beyond to crack the case, even in the midst of personal problems at home. The closer he gets to solving the case, the stranger things get. What he finds is a shock to him and everyone around him.

Darker Than Night by Erick Burgess is an awesome read. It was well written, has great character development and several twists and turns. I found myself thinking I solved the case but in actuality I was wrong.  You know you are reading a good well written book when you start talking to the characters. If you enjoy reading mystery, suspense and thriller books, I encourage you to pick up Darker Than Night. You won’t be disappointed.
